The Company
IDERA, Inc. creates applications for monitoring, managing and developing databases. Diagnostic Management (DM) manages and monitors SQL databases.
The Problem
DM customers wanted the ability to securely monitor their database alerts from a mobile device while they were away from their desk.

The Solution

DM mobile app should be designed for Android, iOS and Windows. It should be downloaded from an app store such as Google or Apple App Store. It needs to be easily connected to DM database and run on an internal tomcat server with dual authentication in place.

How I Reached My Solution

The Plan

Research

I sent out surveys and interviewed customers to determine their mobile needs. I worked closely with product manager and lead architect to figure business goals and limitations.

Analysis

I generated reports using Survey Monkey. I identified the key customers who wanted mobile version of DM. I affinity diagrammed the main features customers wanted.

Conclusion

I learned Diagnostic Manager users wanted to perform only basic actions on specific alerts. They didn't want their information hosted on a cloud server. They needed it secure from hackers.

The Design Process

Mapping the Experience

I created a user flow diagram for each persona while using DM Mobile app. From there I created a sitemap.

Creating the Design

I created wireframes and presented them to product managers. Then I converted each screen into a clickable prototype using InVision.

Testing the Design

I conducted a usability study of existing users. I tested to see if a user can easily view database information and act on it.

Results

Increase Downloads

64% of DM customers downloaded the app.

Recommend

95% of the mobile app users will recommend it.

Ease of Use

83% found the mobile app easy to use.
